On Sunday October 4th CARP Halton Chapter & Silver Sherpa Inc. hosted a free showing of an entertaining and informational film at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community Centre in Oakville.
CYBER-SENIORS is a documentary and social impact campaign connecting youth and seniors through technology
Directed by Toronto’s Saffron Cassaday, this humorous and heart-warming feature documentary follows the story of a pioneering group of cyber-seniors as they discover the wonders of the world-wide-web with the help of teenage mentors.
“Cyber-Seniors is a powerful example of the opportunities that emerge when generational gaps are bridged, and when new ways of connecting are explored”, says Cyber-Seniors director Saffron Cassaday.
- Described as “inspirational and funny” in the extensive media coverage it has received.
- One person who attended the CARP/Silver Sherpa showing said she laughed so hard her cheeks hurt!
Young adults from local Rotaract Clubs were on hand to demonstrate technology examples show-cased in the film. Many people took advantage of their expertise to ask general questions.
Some also brought their own portable devices to get specific assistance, which the Rotaract folks were delighted and able to provide. All enjoyed the interaction between youth and seniors
CARP Halton Chapter Partners provided an iPad Mini as a draw prize. The lucky winner, above centre, was Nick Praysner shown here with Halton Chapter Chair Tom Carrothers on the left and Susan Hyatt of Silver Sherpa on the right.
Additionally, the Partners prepared a Grab Bag of goodies and information which were handed out to people who attended the showing.
